Welcome! If you’re here, it’s probably because we have crossed paths in some capacity or you came across a piece of my writing or theater work, two hats of which I’m fond. And those are what this site’s about.
THE VARIOUS HATS OF ROBERT P. MAYETTE
HAT ONE (a Norman helmet, as seen worn by the good guys all over the most important tapestry of the Middle Ages.)
WRITER – I write both literary and speculative fiction and I enjoy working across a wide array of sub-genres. I have an MA in English Literature where I focused on medieval literature and American literature pre-1880. My thesis was on the medieval influences on the work of Nathaniel Hawthorne and how those sources informed Hawthorne’s sense of art. Medieval and early American literature will alway have resonance in my work but I enjoy writing across all time periods.

HAT TWO (a black velvet tophat that if you look at closely enough, you can see a field of stars.)
COMMUNITY THEATER – I’ve done some shows, a couple more recent ones listed below. I love community theater because it gives me a chance to create and appreciate art collaboratively, which is rare to come by as an author. I also like using the themes and questions raised by the theatrical work that I’m in as a mental springboard to other pieces, which I’ve listed below.
Jekyll & Hyde, Sir Danvers Carew, Wilton Playshop. (I wrote short fiction works “The Dust of Ianthe” and “Dreams in My Attic” during this show. “Ianthe” is unpublished out on submissions. “Dreams” is tentatively accepted at a great journal but it will eventually not appear with that title (it’s descriptive of the work, but not a good title), which is why it is not yet on my CV).
The Sound of Music, Captain Von Trapp, Musicals at Richter. (I wrote the unpublished one-act play “An Ordinary Couple” influenced by scenes on the outdoor terrace. It was such a lovely view.)
So, that’s some stuff about me. If you’re interested in the “daytime me,” your best best is to connect with me on LinkedIn. My LinkedIn presence is really all about “daytime me.”
The best way to reach “non-daytime me” is through my personal email account. That’s my first initial, then my middle initial, then my last name (all run together with no punctuation) @ gmail.com. (See, isn’t this fun? It’s like a little puzzle that only you and your humanity could ever figure out, where no spam-bot webpage scraper even stands a chance. Imagine that this is a scene out of one of those Nicholas Cage films or maybe The DaVinci Code. You’re welcome for this little dash of mystery and excitement!)
Thank you for visiting, and I wish you prosperity and joy, both today and for all along life’s journey. Make your dreams real.
